Short Bio

Noboru Babaguchi received the B.E., M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in communication engineering from Osaka University, in 1979, 1981 and 1984, respectively. He is currently a Professor of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Osaka University. >From 1996 to 1997, he was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, San Diego. His research interests include image/video analysis, multimedia computing and intelligent systems. He has published over 200 journal and conference papers and several textbooks. Dr. Babaguchi received Best Paper Award of 2006 Pacific-Rim Conference on Multimedia (PCM2006), and Fifth International Conference on Information Assurance and Security (IAS2009). He is on the editorial board of Multimedia Tools and Applications, Advances in Multimedia, and New Generation Computing. He served as a workshop Co-chair of 3rd International Workshop on Multimedia Information Retrieval (MIR2001), a Track Co-chair of 2006 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo (ICME2006), a General Co-chair of the 14th International MultiMedia Modeling Conference (MMM2008), a Sub-Track Chair (Image, video, and multimedia signal processing) of 2009 APSIPA Annual Summit and Conference (APSIPA ASC 2009), a General Co-Chair of ACM Multimedia 2012, a Track Co-Chair of 21st International Conference on Pattern Recognition, and an Area Chair of ICME2013. He also served on program committee of international conferences in multimedia related fields. He is a Fellow of IEICE, a Senior Member of IEEE, and a member of ACM, IPSJ, ITE and JSAI.

Short Bio

Minho Jo has over two decades of experience in academia and industry. He is a Professor at the Department of Computer & Communications, Korea University, Seoul, South Korea. He is in charge of industrial cooperation in the College of Information & Communications, Korea University. He was one of founding members of LCD Division of Samsung Electronics in 1994. He is currently the Vice President of Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea (IEEK).
He is well-renowned in the area of energy-efficient wireless communications and network security in the world. He was awarded with Haedong Outstanding Scholar Award for his outstanding research performance and contribution with 20,000 US Dollars of prize in 2011. He is currently the editor-in-chief of KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Systems, editor for IEEE Network, IEEE Wireless Communications, associate editor for Wiley's Wireless Communications & Mobile Computing, and Wiley's Security & Communication Networks.
He has published numerous research papers in high quality journals and magazines over the years. Prof. Jo received his Ph.D in 1993 from Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, USA. He received his BSc (Hons) in 1984 from Department of Industrial Engineering, Chosun University, South Korea. He was the Founder and CEO of Xiumenke Software Co., China in 2003.

Short Bio

Dr. Nau is the Director of optometric and low vision services for the UPMC Eye Center, and the founder of the Sensory Substitution Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh. She graduated from the New England College of Optometry and completed a residency in ocular disease at the VAMC in Boston. She practiced at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston for five years and has been at the University of Pittsburgh since 2003. Clinically, she specializes in medical contact lenses for ocular surface and corneal disease, including scleral lenses and contacts for artificial corneas. Her research interests primarily center on artificial vision technologies for the blind, including sensory substitution. Her laboratory has conducted the largest human studies to date of the BrainPort Vision Device, which uses the tongue as a means to convey visual information to the brain.

Sheila Nirenberg is a Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at Weill Cornell Medical College and at the HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud Institute for Computational Biomedicine, also at Weill Cornell. Dr. Nirenberg received her PhD from Harvard University in neuroscience with an emphasis on molecular biology. After her postdoctoral work, also at Harvard, but in computational neuroscience, she joined the faculty at UCLA, receiving tenure in 2005. She was then recruited to Weill Cornell’s Department of Physiology and Biophysics. Her work here focuses on information processing in the brain and uses a combined theoretical and experimental approach. Dr. Nirenberg has won numerous awards for her innovations, including a Beckman Young Investigator Award, a Klingenstein Fellowship, a UCLA Frontiers of Science award, a Stein Oppenheimer award, a Whitehall Foundation award, a NYC BioAccelerate Prize, and, from her students, Most Humorous Professor.
